Another month has come and gone. It's now late November. It is cold and grey and dull. I love it. I am not a winter person as a rule, but there is something so achingly beautiful about November. I have spent the month documenting everyone else's families and didn't have much opportunity to freelense. I took my kids out for a short walk one afternoon, and I'm sure you can tell by the red noses and ruddy cheeks that it was very cold. I did some freelensing while I was at it, but not a lot, because I preferred to watch them run and play and the last of the oak leaves. Pretty soon it'll all be covered in snow until May, and I will long for this time again. Enjoy these photos for what they are - not so much 'art' this month, but a glimpse into their dark eyes on a coldly magical day.

Joni, you know what really struck me about this post? I found myself loving the shots that had less conventional focus. I know we are freelensing so our focus is going to be different but I think I throw away shots where the focus is outside of my normal comfort zone. The one in particular that I love is the second one. I love that only one of his eyes is in focus. You have inspired me to let go more with my freelensing. Also, I am in love with that green hat!! Both of your kids have awesome hats!

Joni, I agree, november is achingly beautiful. and you capture that beauty so well. i swear, i am going to try some vertical shots next time bc i love how you create them with the blur above and in focus bottom. these also have such a whimsical old fashioned feeling to them. their sweet hats add to that feeling--did you make those (and also is your daughter's hat from lamb loves fox's pattern?- I had my sister in law make that exact hat last year! it got left in the rain though and now is all spotted :( )
